In these two decades, many Tamil short stories have been translated into other Indian languages. A number of Tamil short stories have been published in English, French, Spanish and Arabic in the quarterly magazine 'Indian Horizons', a publication of the 'Indian Council for Cultural Relations'. Three Tamil short stories were included in the 'Newwriting in India' collection by England Penguins. Many national dailies and weekly magazines have published many Tamil short stories in English translation. In many foreign countries, Tamil short stories are being translated into the languages ¿¿of that country. This not only signifies mutual interest in learning about people and life, but also that Tamil short stories have a place worthy of respect in the world literary arena.

As mentioned earlier, this collection is an attempt to reflect the platform on which the Tamil short story operated during a period, at its highest level. This is not the first collection of Tamil short stories ever. But if such an anthology is produced, it is sure to include many stories from this anthology.
