Enantiomers are optically active compounds with one or more chiralcenters and have identical physicochemical properties except the rotation of plane polarized light. Approximately 1 in 4 therapeutic agents are marketed as racemates, the individual enantiomers frequently differ in both their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles.
