The first edition of De la natural hystoria de las Indias (Toledo, 1526) is here reproduced in facsimile in honor of Professor Sterling A. Stoudemire. Oviedo, an official chronicler of the Indies, describes in naive but charming fashion the dazzling variety of new flora and fauna as well as the customs of the Indians he observed in the Caribbean Islands.

This study is an analysis of Rousseau's relationship to his reader in the major works from Discours sur les sciences et les arts to Reveries du promeneur solitaire.
