Process improvement is an ongoing challenge. Organizations will always be looking to hasten the speed or improve the quality of the ways in which they conduct their business and provide their services [13]. Process nonconformance detection is one specific way in which a process can be improved, and is the focus of this paper. The contributions in the literature relating directly to this field have so far been sparse, especially in the technology sphere, with relatively few 2 Sean Thompson and Torab Torabi papers presented ranging from Cugola et al. [2] in 1995 through to Zazworka et al. [10] in 2009 and their expansion presented in 2010 [19]. Therefore the state of the research has not quite matured yet into something robust despite the relatively long period of time people have been researching in this area, although the domain seems to have garnered more research interest in recent years with contributions from Huo et al. [4] in 2006, Kabbaj et al. [7] in 2007, and Rozinat and van der Aalst [11] in 2008 as examples aside from our own contributions.
