This collection of work was written over the course of three years. Throughout this time, there have been many trials, tribulations, and difficulties, not only in Emerson's personal life but in his development as a writer as well. From the emotional depths that have been reached throughout those trying years is this, his first book, Afterthoughts and Hand Grenades.

Emerson has made many mistakes in his life, probably most of the mistakes a young man can make were made by him and due to this fact he is in a great amount of debt.
