This is a study of what attracts teenagers to the church and keeps them there. The author interviewd a number of teenagers and their parents from mainline Protestant, evangelical and Roman Catholic congregations. The book builds on the following elements: the story of how three churches are securing teens' commitment to a church-oriented sense of faith rooted in their Christian traditions, the voice of teens who are deeply commited, as well as those who opt out of the "best case scenario" churches, and the perceptions of parents in relation to spirituality, the church and religion. The result is a helpful description of the most effective ways that congregations and their parents can build a faith in early teens that is not anti-institutional and that helps them value the church as a place of identity, belonging and growth.
