Doña Irene, Paquita's widow and mother, arranges her daughter's marriage to Don Diego, a rich bachelor. The appearance of Don Carlos, Don Diego's nephew, a rich bachelor will come to frustrate the widow's plans. With this, Moratín creates an argument against the educational media of the time and claims the right to a faith free of fanaticism and superstitions at the same time that he advocates the choice of love, that is, for the rights of the individual and, essentially, of the woman.
