Everybody's Business

Excerpt from Everybody's Business: Everybody's Business Should Be in Everybody's Hands, and Everybody's Mouth, EverywhereThe character on the left of our embellishment represents an Old English Gentleman. Robert Ainsworth informs us that the letter P is of no great antiquity, nor, in fact, use. The name of this letter is the same in English, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, 719, pe, signifying, in that tongue, a month, which the figure somewhat represents. The ancient Latins were sometimes at a stand whether to write B or P, as, for instance, in Fabius, whether obtineo, or optineo, since more of this, than that was heard in pronunciation. This is also proportionably demonstrated in its very figure, P being half a B.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
