Spain received 83.7 million tourists in 2019 and broke the record for tourist numbers for the seventh consecutive year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, tourism was reduced to 18.3 million for 2020.
The Covid 19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 caused a steep drop-off in tourism to many destinations, but surveys have shown an ongoing interest in international travel once it becomes safe again. The number of Americans traveling overseas is expected to begin a recovery by the third quarter of 2021, once vaccinations are available to a wide variety of people.
