FORAGING MODE OF THOUGHT AND FORAGER SULUNG'S SOCIAL SELF

The present monograph presents a critical insight into the concept of foraging mode of thought, a binary explanatory tool, which conceptualises the social reality into foraging and accumulation categories. Within this conceptual frame an empirical study of the Sulungs, a forager community of Arunachal Pradesh in Northeast India, whose social reality is a manifestation of its own cultural image and an extended relationship with neighbouring Nyishi tribe, subordinate by any standard, is attempted. Precisely, the context explored in the volume is a theoretical presentation of empirical reality drawing on both ethnography and secondary sources of data. Undoubtedly, the book will provide a analytical framework for any one who is interested in studying critically the social image of pre-literate and subordinate foraging communities in transition.
