Legend's Fury

Mancini, Donald P.

Legend's Fury

In the rugged high mountain country John Legend is called home by smoke signals from his Cheyenne blood brother, Bear Soldier. At the cabin, Legend finds Bear Soldier grieving the torture, rape and murder of Legend's wife (Pony), a white woman, and Bear's pregnant Indian wife, Soaring Bird. They immediately set off to catch the killers and trail six riders. An unwilling bar tender informs them that four of the murderers rode west, while one injured man and his brother were left nearby in an old relay station. Together, John and Bear attack the relay station. Bear Soldier is wounded but Legend continues to fight and forces the wounded outlaw to recount the brutal torture and murder of Pony and Soaring Bird. Having found out what he wants to know, Legend hangs the outlaw. After escorting Bear Soldier to his people for care, Legend continues the hunt alone. During lonely moments on the trail, he remembers life with Pony. Legend travels to Big Beaver Mountain and spends time resting at the Beaver Trading Post. While there, Legend hears of Diamond O'Banion, the owner of the Velvet Parrot Saloon in the town of Silver. Nearing Silver, Legend is shot and left for dead. He is found by a mountain man called Hawk and recuperates at Hawk's cabin with the help of Rachel, his beautiful daughter.
