Oceana County Pioneers and Businessmen of to-Day

Excerpt from Oceana County Pioneers and Businessmen of to-Day: History, Biography, Statistics and Humorous Incidents

It is perhaps the adaptability of soil and climate for fruit raising that has given this section its greatest reputation. The Michigan Fruit Belt is a strip of territory with a shadowy interior bounda ry, in which peaches are grown with a smaller per centage of failures than elsewhere in the State - (michigan and its Resources.) This strip extends along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan from Ben zie county on the north to Berrien county on the south, and being from ten to twenty miles in width. By an examination of the map of Michigan it Will be seen that Oceana lies about midway between the northern and southern extremes of this belt, and it has the greatest projection into Lake Michigan of any portion of the State.
