In the suburbs of Tokyo, trapped in a house that is not his own, an unnamed man waits, waits again for the wrath of a vengeful spirit - Onryo.

Speaking into an old tape recorder, trying to warn others about what lurks within, he recounts the events of his life: at university in the 'swinging sixties' and his relationship with the volatile Selena, his work in Japan, where he meets Yuzuki, a woman mysteriously outcast from family and friends, and his eventual rise to riches and influence, a man of consequence.

But something is missing, something he craves yet denies - companionship. Fatefully, he seeks out a companion on the internet, trawling the ranks of the lonely on dating websites. Here, he encounters Hatsuko Himura, and the dark die is cast, the curse is unleashed - the curse of Onryo.
