Over 4 years, this botanical dictionary has been compiled to cover an exhaustive assortment of scientific and vernacular terms, and provide: pronunciation guidelines which are not incomprehensible, correct plurals and etymologies, and meaningful definitions. It attempts to collect all English terms which relate specifically to plants, including algae, as well as to fungi or lichens. This includes terms taken from literature and legend which refer to specific plants, or ones which have a specific purpose or habitat. Terms used for plant habitats, plant products, and verbs pertaining to plants have also been sought out and included. At the same time, it avoids artificially augmenting the count of terms by simply defining plant families or genera. The work begins with a brief consideration of how plants, as a representative of life on this planet, are often overlooked, discounted, or ignored as living beings. This omission is both unfair and foolish, since it is evident that we do KNOW that plants (and fungi) are alive. The list of 6288 terms are then defined, and the work finishes with a topical index of the terms it contains.
