Lauren runs from the work house so she is not touched by Silas Webber owner of the dreadful place, she is found by David Earl of Leslie and taken home. She is then nursed back to health and David falls in love with her, they marry and have three children, their daughter Mary meets and becomes best friends with the young Queen Victoria.
