To the many thousands of masters and mistresses employed in the schools of all grades in this country it is hoped that this little book will be both useful and interesting.

For them it is primarily written, with the view of setting before them, in language which is as far as possible kept free from legal technicalities, a sketch of their rights and liabilities according to law.

It is intended to deal only with questions which arise strictly from the master's position as a schoolmaster, and it is submitted that the titles of the four chapters cover all points of view from which this position is capable of being regarded.
