Excerpt from The Perfect Prayer and Its Lessons: A Devotional Study of the Lord's Prayer, on the Basis of the Explanations in Luther's Smaller Catechism

Uther's Catechism is universally recog nized among us as the best basis for the instruction of our people, and it serves equally well to aid their devotion. Our Church liter ature, in the English language, has provided for the fuller treatment of several of its divi sions. Dallman's Ten Commandments, Gerberding's Way of Salvation, Cooper rider's Means of Grace, and other books, excellently cover the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth parts. But we have nothing, so far as the present writer has been able to discover, which explains and applies the Third Part, the Lord's Prayer. It has seemed desirable to attempt to supply this lack. May the blessing of the Lord be given to this small contribu tion to the glory of His Name and to the use of His Church.
