A group of four teenage girls are going away for the summer, each one to a different place. They decide to send a worn pair of jeans to follow each one of them, each will mail the pants to the next in turn, and write down her favorite adventure on the leg. This is a shameless narrative framing device that allows us to follow each girl as she faces her conflicts on her part of the trip. Lena, in Greece, accuses a young Adonis of spying on her skinny-dipping, Tibby finds her filmmaking apprentice has leukemia, Bridget gets in over her head with a soccer camp coach, Carmen discovers that her divorced father has a new fiance and family. The pants weave their stories together.
